Creative Schmeative
There’s something about the creative process that I’m finding inherently soothing. Ever since I took up sewing - plush toys specifically, but sewing in general really - I think I’ve become a much calmer person than I used to be. I think it can be attributed both to the release a person gets when they’re creative, and to the nature of that kind of creativity - sewing, knitting, building little toys out of clay. Of course, it could also be a result of just aging and being in college and learning to deal with … stuff.
Long story short, I was so excited to see the new Month of Softies topic, “Holiday Hang-ups”, that Friday night I bought a batch of red, green, silver and blue shantung to make my Chrismukkah stocking. After two late nights, I’ve got a little blue stocking with a silver dreidel sewn on the top. And what have I learned from working with shantung? Two things.
1. Pinking shears are heaven. Heaven! They reduce fraying and, most importantly, create lovely zig-zag patterns.
2. Never again shall I work with shan-9.99-a-yard-tung. Never!
Photos forthcoming to the creative-type-area, as well as news of Chanukah goodness.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
