Fat Activists: Stacy Bias
If you haven’t heard of Stacy Bias you’ve either never been online, or you’re just incredibly unlucky. The owner of a slew of rad queer sites (including the famous Technodyke), the creator of awesome vegan lip balm (Pussy Pucker Pots and Literati Lip Balm which come in flavors like TaTa Tangerine and Shakespearmint) and the mind behind Dyketees, Stacy has created quite a legacy of queer and indie online communities and resources. However, in addition to all this, she’s also a passionate fat liberation activist.
If you’ve been following the blog, you read earlier about her conference, Fat Girl Speaks, a grassroots empowerment feel-good fat-a-palooza held in Portland, Oregon. What you may not know is that Stacy also treks across the country to help teach others to organize; I know because I got to meet her and take her workshop on grassroots and event organizing at NOLOSE this year. She’s a brilliant organizer with a knack for knowing what needs to be done when, which is why FGS has been a huge success. If you’re in the Northwest US, keep your eye on the Portland fat scene for Stacy’s work, because if you get the chance to work with her, you’ll not only learn something about the work of activism, but you’ll have a ridiculously fun time doing it, too.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
