Blogathon 2006
So here’s the deal.
Blogathon 2006 is coming up, and for the event this year (mark your calendars - it’s July 29th!), I’m returning to the cause nearest and dearest to my heart, queer rights, and blogging for the Log Cabin Republicans.
Just kidding. I’m blogging, once again, for GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. For those who don’t know, GLSEN work primarily in high schools, providing education and advocacy resources for students, teachers, administrators and staff to create educational environments which support all students, regardless of gender or sexuality. From their mission statement:
The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
Good stuff, right? My goal this year is $300. Ambitious for what I usually raise, but I’m going to be optimistic. And I’ll make some kind of progress chart. That always inspires people.
Speaking of inspiration, if you feel the urge to help out with the ‘thon, why don’t you head over to the Blogathon forum and let folks know you’d like to volunteer as a monitor? The 2006 ‘thon will be bigger than ever, and as the one coordinating the volunteer efforts, I can say we need all the help we can get. So come volunteer! And sponsor me! And volunteer!
PS, testing the awesome Silk icons we’re using for the game reviews. This post has a four-star rating!

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
Sheena,
Hi. I appreciate your comments — and if you want to pop over and read my last entry … its just a copy of an email I sent to someone else — but it pretty much sums up how I feel about this. I’m really not sure what I’m going to do yet, but I do want to apologize for “the ruckus” that was created on the forum. If you noticed, I didn’t respond — part of it was a time issue, but also, I didn’t want to keep the fire burning. I’m obviously out of my league on this. I know I am the one who opened the can of worms; but I am hoping that when its all said and done, I can just quietly do the Blogathon, in my own little world, with my own little sponsors, and that will be that. But, as I stated in my blog entry — if what she says is true, then I have a bigger problem at hand than the Blogathon. I do again apologize for what happened at the forum. That was not my intent.
Me again:) 1 - I apologize for spelling your name wrong — I have a cousin who spells it with the two “e” s.
and 2 - since there is a good chance I have gone on to do other entries, “my last entry” may not hold true when/if you go to read — so the direct link to what I am talking about is:

[…] Sheana will be ‘thonning for GLSEN. An organisation which in her own words is - […]
Hey Carolyn, thanks for your comments (I’m terrible with responding, thus my lateness). I noticed that you did end up blogging for them; while I have philosophical differences with their practices and obviously some ethical concerns about the “information” in their comic books, I do respect the fact that you took the time to research them more and really thought about what you were committing to.
