Monster House
So I’m conflicted. I saw Monster House earlier tonight, and I can’t decide if I really enjoyed it, or I really hated it. I know most of the critics tore it a new one (or, since it’s a film, I guess they just tore it a first one), but the overall story was pretty good for an animated film. The scenery, the actual house, some of the effects were really well done. But the people? Seriously, they were the scariest part of the film.

Look at that kid’s head. If you go by mass, I’d say it’s about three times as big as his entire torso. It’s freaking scary!

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
I deeply, deeply hated Monster House.
I think I read your entry a while back, so I went into it expecting the worst. The sad thing is, the overall storyline is really interesting, and that’s what hooked me - but there’s SO much that’s just wrong, like the attempted date rape scene you mentioned. When that came on I found myself thinking, is this really a movie for kids? And even if it’s for adults, what the hell are they saying with this scene? Guh.
