Penguins

I think I need to watch more documentaries.

Yes, I’m probably the last one, but I finally saw March of the Penguins tonight. I was a bit of a skeptic going in, but by the end I was actually pleased. What’s even better, because it was about penguins - all penguins, all the time - there wasn’t much in the way of sexist, homophobic, racist representation that I had to sit through (in fact, I can’t think of any - not surprisingly). How sad is it, though, that it had to be a documentary solely about antarctic animals to finally break out of the whole cycle of oppression thing. Maybe I should just watch more animal planet.

Either way, it’s got this strange effect of getting me excited about the new animated penguin flick, Happy Feet. Which may or may not be terribly racist and sexist and any other combination of crap, but since I’ve had one good experience with penguins so far, I’m withholding judgment until I see it myself, or someone confirms otherwise. Besides, I mean, baby penguins! Sometimes even I succumb to the cute thing.

I love penguins! I haven’t seen Happy Feet yet (but I will) and I really liked March of the Penguins.

I’d love to have a pet penguin, except the penguinarium at the zoo smells so bad that it changes my mind.

    Stopped by from the Randomizer!

I still haven’t seen March of the Penguins and I’ve owned it since last Christmas…

As for Happy Feet, I could see how people might think it was racist, sexist I don’t think so because it’s actually rather accurate to penguin mating rituals.

But I still didn’t like it for other reasons. But I won’t ruin it for you : )

[…] Congratulations to all the other NaBloPoMo’ers out there! The days of wondering what to talk about, of waking up in a cold sweat at a quarter to midnight and realizing you haven’t posted are behind you! For me, miraculously, I made it through all thirty days with a post apiece, but it wasn’t always on time, or even good. And yes, there was that one night that I woke up with a start at 11:43 and made my post by - no kidding - 11:59 pm (about penguins, of all things). But I finished, and hey, maybe I’ll even make (mostly) regular posting a habit around here. Who knows? […]
