Chanukah Blog Tour and Chanukah Man
This year, among the many memes I’m participating in is the Chanukah Blog Tour, which I just signed up for today over at Amy Guth’s blog. Via there, I’ve found all kinds of other neat folks who are observing the holiday. My favorite blog, so far, is life as orieyenta, where Orieyenta posts about Jewish stuff, family stuff, and - oh yeah - more Jewish stuff. It’s good stuff! I especially love the photos of all the neat stuff her kids (er, kid?) do to participate in Chanukah, like making a little menorah for her parents or singing “Oh Chanukah”… I’ve been on a Chanukah tune kick lately, so I’m always giddy to hear more folks doing different renditions of the, oh, two Chanukah songs out there.
Today I was playing around with some graphics for Livejournal and I remembered Chanukah Harry, who - as far as I understand - is a Jewish version of Santa Claus. I thought, hey, what could be more amusing than a Chanukah (C)Harry icon? Apparently, a lot - there are zero, zilch, nada images online of Chanukah Harry, besides a few costumes and some grainy caps of Jon Lovitz introducing the character on Saturday Night Live several years back. Maybe it makes me a Bad Jew - ah heck, of course it makes me a Bad Jew - but I’d really like a holiday icon a little more, er, current than the Maccabees. Hm. Maybe Chanukah Candle Man? Miracle Man? A-ha, I’ve got it!

Yeah, admit it, he’s pretty much perfect. Pop on a yarmulke and six more arms and he’d be perfect! He’s celebratory, he’s all about delicious food, and oh yeah - HE’S A CANDLE!

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
