Goodbye Chanukah, Hello Christmas
Tonight was the last night of Chanukah.
As such, I spent the afternoon doing the only thing conceivable. I spent it making doughnuts.
For a little while, things - specifically the apple filling I was making on the fly - looked pretty grim.
After all was done, they looked more than a little like charcoal briquettes.
Fortunately, both the apple-filled and the chocolate-glazed turned out magnificent - hideous, yes, but magnificent. Out of 15 total doughnuts attempted, all were perfectly edible, and only the first 11 we cooked at such a high temperature that they ended up looking like coal. Who knew the oil kept getting hot after it reached the goal temperature? The answer, it would seem, is everyone but me.
Ah well. We’ve got several tasty doughnuts to show for my, er, arduous afternoon in the kitchen, and only a few days left until we celebrate Big C’s holiday, Jesusday Presentday Christmas. Goodbye Chanukah, hello Christmas.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
