Surviving the Apocalypse + New Fat!
As (I hope) most folks guessed, yesterday’s post was a part of the Blog Like It’s the End of the World day, where folks posted as if they were living (or not) through a Zombie uprising. Ever since I saw 28 Days Later a couple years ago, I’ve been terrified of zombies. A couple of weeks ago, though, a friend got me involved in the online game Urban Dead, where folks play as if they are living through a post-apocalyptic zombie uprising. The game, and yesterday’s posting, has been surprisingly cathartic; I even told C today that we could finally rent Shaun of the Dead, for example. She’s been pleading for us to watch it forever, but after taking a second chance on Dawn of the Dead, I was pretty certain I couldn’t stomach anymore undead-themed films. 28 Weeks Later… that one I’m still working on.
But hey, speaking of links (sort of?), I’ve been a little slow-going in updating the blogroll with some of the new fat sites that have been emerging over the last year (or at least, that I’ve been starting to read over the past year). Fat fu put together a pretty handy feed of the fatosphere for anyone who hasn’t already picked up on it. Yours truly is honored to be among such illustrious blogs as Big Fat Blog, The-F-Word, A Celebration of Curves, The Rotund.
Elsewhere (not sure if it’s on the feed or not) is Red No. 3 - especially delectable for me because he delves into pop culture pretty regularly, and I have a hard time getting my head out of pop culture - at least on the blog. And in my classes. And in my research. And in my teaching. Hell, I see potential for fat liberation and fat feminism in pretty much every medium of popular culture, even where it’s probably not intended - like this Questionable Content strip from yesterday, where the character Faye (who is perpetually implied to be a more plus-sized figure) actually looks… well, plus-sized. Fat, even. And then I think about it, and realize it’s the first time in a while I’ve seen a fat character in a comic whose body wasn’t the sole (ridiculed) focus of the strip. Hooray!
Wait, what were we talking about?
Anyway, I’ll be adding links over the next few days and trying to freshen things up around Seeworthy; with 24 hours of blogging and doing otherwise Blogathonnish activities, I certainly need as much good reading as I can get.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
I’m supposed to be in the feed, but the feed seems to be pissed off at me right now. Thanks for reading, though. Good to know my TV viewing isn’t going to waste.
Ah, feeds can be temperamental… that’s unfortunate, but I’m sure the kinks will get worked out soon.
And hey, thanks for posting! You have good insights
I wish my blog and Big Fat Blog weren’t basically named the same thing. But oh well; too late now, I guess! It was great to discover you on the feed!
