Apple removes thin-centric ad
Hat-tip to Devin who alerted me to this blog post about Apple having removed the words “You can never be too thin” from the ad at Apple’s main site. Apparently the fat bloggers weren’t the only ones calling Apple out on their thin-centric, misogynist ad campaign; the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness was another vocal critic of the ads.
Even though it was terrible of Apple to use the ads in the first place, I do have to commend them on responding to the (very valid) criticisms and changing the ad so quickly.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
Wow, and the comments at TUAW are half crap. Who would’ve guessed?
Good to see that the ad was changed in any case, though - classy.
I realize it was simply a marketing slogan for Apple, and maybe I was reading too far into it, but I’m glad they removed it - and quickly. It was just insensitive marketing, in my opinion.
Rachel, you’re not reading too far into it. Anyone who says “it’s just advertising” is brutally ignorant of how advertising works.
Oh, yay! I’m really glad to hear that! Especially since Al’s jonesing for an iMac, and I was refusing to let him get one while that ad was running.
