Wii are fatphobic
So they have those commercials where two guys go around from house to house saying “Wii would like to play.” But maybe what they should be saying is, “Wii are ignorant fucking fatphobes, wii’d like to promote some body tyranny, and oh yeah, wii would like to play.”
I love my Wii. It is pretty much my favorite gaming system ever… I’m a devoted Nintendo fan, but this even tops the N64 for me (I wasn’t super-hot on the gamecube, though it was nice). I like that Nintendo has finally taken a step towards interactivity in gaming, and one way they do that is with their polls. You get to pick from two options, and then predict what you think most people would choose.
I haven’t played in a while, so I was pretty surprised last night to sign on and see the following question:
Say what? Bad form, Nintendo. Who picked this question? “Gee, there’s one about pirates and ninjas, but this one will emphasize how there’s GOT TO BE something wrong with your weight or height. Body hegemony FTW!” Er, yes. Disappointing. My fat, average-height Mii (in the middle) didn’t vote on either, which means I couldn’t predict which would “win.” How tragic.

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!

Maybe a user submitted it? You can submit questions.
I didn’t like it in the context it would have to make some little kid admitt, possibly in front of family or friends, a feeling about their body. A lot of sad scenarios popped into mind.
The questions are actually user-submitted, not made up by Nintendo. You can submit a question right from the Everybody Votes page. I don’t think they’re getting enough submittions, because sometimes it takes a little longer for new questions to show up and then they have stupid questions like “Which would you rather jump into, a pool of spaghetti or a pool of pudding?” I didn’t vote on the question either but I don’t think you should hate Nintendo for letting it get through.
I know the questions are user-submitted, but somebody still has to look at them and say, yup, this looks like an okay question to poll folks about. I have a suspicion that if I sent something in about being a top or a bottom, that just wouldn’t fly under the radar.
while watching the video on the above-mentioned wii website, i was thinking the wii fit looked pretty darn cool, especially on the yoga and balance activities…then it showed the family all calculating their BMIs together. sigh.
