Training the revolutionaries of the future
Colleen’s family has been visiting this past week, including her new four-week-old nephew. I’ve never spent much time with babies - or any time, really - but as they go, this one isn’t half bad.
I’ve decided to train him to be a revolutionary. He’ll be the first self-identified male feminist in the family! He’ll […]
Is Dumbledore being gay really such a great thing?
I’ll admit it. When my friend Dahlia sent me a link to the CNN article about J. K. Rowling outing her character Albus Dumbledore as gay, I squeed a little. Who wouldn’t? Seven books, hundreds (I’m guessing?) of characters, and none of them were gay? It seemed a triumph, if only a little one.
But as […]
Who’s a Buffy scholar?
Me, apparently. Because if it’s in print - or online - it must be true. Says I.
The extremely excellent Justin Roberts interviewed me a while back about my love of the series, my opinion on the movie and, oh yeah, some of my thoughts about Buffyology and Buffy theory and a Big Queer Buffy Analysis […]

That book… yeah, that one.
So, uh, apparently there was some shindig at the nearby Barnes & Noble last Friday.
When we got there, they seemed to have Hogwarts “students” giving demonstrations. I was somewhat disappointed that they couldn’t spare some actually professors, but we managed.
There were also Children. Since when do Children read these books?
The above picture would have […]
Glamazons rocking America’s Got Talent
Regardless of what you think of burlesque, the Hoff’s goofy nodding, or the way that both male judges slobber all over them, you have to admit - the Glamazons have consistently been fantastic on America’s Got Talent. I rarely participate in this whole vote-for-the-winner phenomenon (since, generally, I don’t think it makes much difference), but […]
This just in: if you murder your wife and child, you get a three-hour television tribute!
Watching Inside Edition this morning (give me a break, I’m a grad student on summer vacation… at least I’m awake before noon), they shared that the wrestler Chris Benoit had murdered his wife and child, then took his own life. After Vince McMahon came out with the announcement, he condemned yet another incidence of brutal, […]
Glamazons on America’s Got Talent
Confession 1: I sometimes watch America’s Got Talent, if Deal or No Deal is on a commercial break. Actually, that should be two confessions.
Confession 3: I was aware of the existence of the Glamazons, a fat burlesque troupe out of New York, but I’d never seen them perform and had no idea how awesome they […]
Surviving the Apocalypse + New Fat!
As (I hope) most folks guessed, yesterday’s post was a part of the Blog Like It’s the End of the World day, where folks posted as if they were living (or not) through a Zombie uprising. Ever since I saw 28 Days Later a couple years ago, I’ve been terrified of zombies. A couple of […]

The criticisms of my students would serve as a good warning to visitors of Seeworthy: she talks too fast, she's too hard on us, she assigns too much work, and you have to be a dyke to get a good grade.
In other words, I'm a big, fat, queer, feminist meanie, and I am totally out to get you. Graaagh!
